Central State University’s mobile market—which offers free food to the community—will reopen this Tuesday.
It's been a year since the community marketplace was shut down by the pandemic.
Dr. Mary Kershaw says the market became a regular event on Central State’s campus back in 2018. That’s when the university was approached by the Dayton Foodbank.
"Research shows that college students have a fairly high incidence of food insecurity, and they took a look at our community as a whole and thought that our community could benefit from a food pantry," she says.
The market is open and free to the entire community.
It takes place on the second Tuesday of every month from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Ward Center on Central State’s campus.
Things will look a little different this year, with social distancing and masks required, but Kershaw says they'll still be ready to give free food to anyone who needs it.
