Phase 1B Of Vaccine Rollout Starts This Week
Phase 1 B of Montgomery County’s Vaccine rollout plan starts this coming week. Phase 1 B population groups include people age 65 and older, those with severe congenital or medical disorders, and employees of K to 12 schools. Public Health - Dayton and Montgomery County Health Commissioner Jeff Cooper says that vaccinating these groups is especially important.
“The governor has set two primary goals," Cooper says. "Number 1, save lives, and that means let's get the vaccine to those most vulnerable. And also get our K to 12 children back in school, in person by March 1st.”
Lisa Henderson is Vice President of Health Initiatives at the Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association. Henderson says healthcare providers have to abide by strict state rules governing who they can give the vaccine too at this time.
"All providers are reporting into that state data system which provides updates to the Governor’s vaccine dashboard," she says. "We know that transparency is important, and we’re all working together to meet his goal and ours to save lives.”
A limited supply of the vaccine will be available at several local health care providers and pharmacies over the coming weeks. All providers require a person to make an appointment prior to showing up for the vaccine. There’s more information on how to book an appointment here.
