Book Nook: The Glovemaker, by Ann Weisgarber

Ann Weisgarber has set her latest novel "The Glovemaker" in a remote region in Utah during the late 1880's. The isolated community of Junction provides the backdrop for a drama that involves a woman, Sister Deborah, who is waiting for her husband to return home after a long journey. He's a wheelwright. He's been out repairing wheels. He should have gotten back by now.

So where is he? Deborah has been lonely and she has had to deal with some stressful situations while he has been gone. Fortunately there is a neighbor who has been looking out for her. The mystery of her husband's disappearance is the underlying thread that winds through this fictional imagining of people who really lived in a small settlement during that period, a community which no longer exists.

I won't give away any more about this story. Please listen to the interview to get a better sense of where this tale could take you.
