Book Nook Special Edition: The 75th Anniversary Of The Antioch Review
The Antioch Review recently published 2 special editions of the magazine to mark the 75th anniversary of the publication. AR editor Robert Fogarty returned to the program to talk about the history of the Review and how it has changed over the years.
Bob Fogarty came to Antioch College in 1968 and he began his long stewardship of the Antioch Review in 1977. When he arrived in Yellow Springs the original founders of the publication were still around. Fogarty got to know all of those individuals and he has ably carried forward the mission of the magazine with passion and dedication.
These anniversary volumes of the Review contain material that Fogarty selected from the hundreds of magazines that have been published over that time. The second volume of these commemorative volumes is massive in size, a "doorstop" in Fogarty's words and the names of the contributors range from the famous to the utterly obscure.
Readers will find contributions by writers like Ralph Ellison, Sylvia Plath, Mark Strand, and Rod Serling in the first volume. The second edition contains offerings by Allen Ginsberg, Joyce Carol Oates, Gordon Lish, James Merrill, Jonathan Franzen, T.C. Boyle, Clifford Geertz, Edith Pearlman, Maureen McCoy, Norman Thomas di Giovanni and many others.
The Antioch Review along with Glen Helen, and WYSO are among the crown jewels of Antioch College. Under the direction of Robert Fogarty the Antioch Review has excelled, thrived, and survived. This is truly a cause for celebration!
