Fuyao Glass America Running Short On Room

Fuyao Glass America has announced it is expanding again in Moraine. They will now lease more than 240,000 square feet in the building just south of them off Stroop Road.

The building, owned by Industrial Realty Group (IRG) and the Fuyao plant just north of it were once one bigger building housing the GM Moraine Truck Assembly Plant.

Fuyao President John Gauthier says with continued hiring and equipment installations throughout the plant, they need more room.

“We’ve expanded on the south side of our building three times now," he said. "We’re just completing the third warehouse expansion there and added 400,000 total square feet of warehouse space on the south end of our existing facility, so even with that we need some more.”

Fuyao is up to around 1600 employees and while the expansion won’t increase the company's manpower, Gauthier says hiring continues at a steady pace. It’s expected around 2000 employees will eventually work in the plant.

The day GM closed in December of 2008, around 2400 employees lost their jobs.

In a press release Tuesday, Moraine Economic Development Director, Mike Davis said, “This is just another example of Fuyao’s commitment to Moraine. We continue to work closely with Fuyao on this major project in our city. We have been with them since the beginning and will continue to support them.”
