America is seeing a surge in gun sales under the pandemic, and Black Americans are among those purchasing firearms during these uncertain times. The National Shooting Sports Foundation reports African Americans account for the highest increase in gun purchases of any group. And the National African American Gun Association is reporting an increase in membership.

Locally, the CCW licensing firm Arm the Populace has seen interest for years from Black women looking to arm themselves. The group offers a CCW course with Cincinnati Councilman Jeff Pastor. Arm the Populace Owner Douglas Cooper says interest has grown substantially under the pandemic.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss gun ownership among Black women is Arm the Populace Owner and Chief Instructor Douglas Cooper; and Women of Styles Salon and Day Spa Owner Dee Chatman, who also hosts Arm the Populace's women's only CCW classes.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
