Food Banks Feeding Tens Of Thousands More During Pandemic

Tens of thousands of hungry families feeling the strain of unemployment due to the coronavirus are turning to food banks for help. The Freestore Foodbank, one of the largest emergency food providers in the Tri-State area, says their organization is working hard to keep up with the demand. The organization says it is spending five times what it normally spends on food distribution.

Cincinnati Edition speaks with Freestore Foodbank President and CEO Kurt Reiber and First Lieutenant Zachary Cook, with the Ohio Army Reserve National Guard, about the increased need, the role of the Ohio National Guard and a new program that brings surplus food from Ohio farms to hungry families. 

Freestore Foodbank lists the following dates and locations for emergency box food distribution for the week of April 27-May 2:
