Mason's Michael Williams' Fate Depends On 'The Voice' Vote
Mason's Michael Williams encountered a different kind of four-way Monday – a four-way knockout on The Voiceto determine which singer advances to NBC's live show on May 4.
Williams, 18, who performed last year in Kings Island's "Country Flashback" show, sang Calum Scott's "You Are The Reason" competing against Samantha Howell, 19, of Virginia; Nelson Cade III, 27, of California; and Todd Michael Hall, 50, of Michigan.
"It's a little bit of pressure on my shoulders, but a little bit exciting," Williams said on the show.
Nick Jonas, the pop star who has mentored the home-schooled student, said Williams "has got the voice of an angel. He just continues to get better."
James Taylor, the "mega-mentor" on The VoiceMonday, praised Williams as being "really an accomplished singer. He's got his body as well as his soul into it."
The four performed in the final 15 minutes of Monday's two-hour show. After Williams sang, John Legend turned to Jonas and said, "That was amazing." Then each of the celebrity coaches – Jonas, Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton – encouraged viewers to vote for their protégé through 7 a.m. Tuesday, April 21.
Jonas praised Williams by saying: "I'm coming out of my skin right now, because that's the best you've ever sounded. It was so perfect, and you have to continue on in this competition. So America, I beg of you – please, please, please – vote Michael through (to the live shows)."
The winner of the four-way knock-out will be announced in two weeks, on Monday May 4, the season's first live show (8 p.m., Channel 5, NBC) during the May ratings' "sweeps." The Voicewill air a "Road To Live Shows" recap episode next Monday, April 27.
