Independent Toy Stores Are Thriving: Here's How

When Toys "R" Us announced its closure in 2017, the other big box retailers didn't reap all the rewards. Independent toy stores are the ones that truly stepped in to fill a void for children and their parents.

Toy sales grew three percent in the first half of 2017. While e-commerce sites like Amazon are undercutting the big box retailers, small toy businesses are faring well. As IBISWorld Production Manager Jonathan DeCarlo puts it, independent toy stores are competing on quality rather than price.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss the toy market and how independent toy stores compete are IBISWorld Production Manager Jonathan DeCarlo; and long-time Cincinnati toy store King Arthur's Court Toys Buyer Rob Kearney.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
