Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.

It is now legal for qualified patients to purchase medical marijuana in the state of Ohio. The city of Cincinnati has decriminalized smaller quantities of possession of the drug. But legal status of the cannabis plant remains radically different at the local, state and federal levels. So how does local law enforcement decide how to handle the situation when they encounter citizens in possession of marijuana?

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss this issue and other questions about enforcing marijuana laws are Assistant Professor in the Addiction Sciences Division at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. Latrice Montgomery and Cincinnati FOP President Dan Hills.
