Rep. Tim Ryan On Why Generational Change Is Needed In The Democratic Party

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.

Congressman Tim Ryan recently abandoned his quixotic bid for the Democratic Presidential nomination. He, like other younger candidates in the large Democratic field, could not gain the momentum, media attention, and financial support that has more easily swarmed to the three leading candidates: Former Vice President Joe Biden, and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. All of the Democratic frontrunners are in their 70s.

His long shot campaign for the presidency was not the first active role the longtime northeastern Ohio Congressman undertook. Ryan, in 2018, also challenged another powerful septuagenarian: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. That effort to gain the speaker's gavel also fell well short.

Tim Ryan joins Cincinnati Edition on Tuesday to talk about what he perceives as a need for generational change in national leadership, what he learned on the presidential campaign trail, and what he believes his political future holds for him.
