Elections Official Punished For Redacting Pureval Checks
The Hamilton County elections official who marked out the spending lines on campaign checks from Democratic congressional candidate Aftab Pureval will be docked two weeks vacation time as her punishment.
Elections Board chairman Tim Burke says deputy elections director Sally Krisel will lose two of her six weeks of vacation for redacting the memo lines of four checks. At a hearing in September, Krisel apologized for the action, which she did at the request of Aftab Pureval campaign manager Sarah Topy.
The checks have become an issue in a pending Ohio Elections Commission complaint against Pureval, who is running against Republican incumbent Steve Chabot. The two Democrats on the elections board, Burke and Caleb Faux, imposed the punishment on Krisel, a fellow Democrat.
Routinely, when a board employee is punished, the two board members from his or her political party decide how the employee will be reprimanded. Krisel's salary is $118,000 a year.
