A curious email spurred A.J. Jacobs to attempt the biggest family reunion in world history.
A curious email spurred A.J. Jacobs to attempt the biggest family reunion in world history.

Stirred by colossal curiosity after receiving a very strange email, experimental journalist and author joined the family history craze in a big way. He set out to connect the entire human race in one all-encompassing family tree. Along the way, he discovered his own genealogical connections to Hollywood actors, Civil War soldiers and real-life scoundrels, investigated new types of families, and examined whether DNA testing is legitimate.

A.J. Jacobs writes about his genealogical journey in his latest book "It's All Relative: Adventures Up and Down the World's Family Tree." He recently spoke with us about the challenges he faced and surprising discoveries he made in researching and writing the book.
