'A Kind Of Murder' Won't Open In Cincinnati
"A Kind of Murder," the Jessica Biel psychological thriller filmed here two years ago, will not play in Greater Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky theaters when it's released Friday.
The film will be screened here once, Thursday at The Esquire in Clifton – but it's an invitation-only "Cincinnati Industry Mixer for all crew and vendors," says Caitlin Jacobs of Film Cincinnati.
Film Cincinnati announced last week that the movie, called "The Blunderer" during production in November 2014, would be "available be in theaters, on demand, on Amazon video and on iTunes" on Dec. 16.
However, the film is playing only "in select theaters nationwide and will not be playing in Cincinnati," says Amber Warman of The Owens Group, a Cincinnati-based movie promotion company.
The national release comes eight months after "A Kind of Murder" premiered at New York's Tribeca Film Festival on April 17. The Tribeca publicity called the film, directed by Andy Goddard ("Downton Abbey"), a "Hitchcockian thriller."
In the film, Patrick Wilson ("Fargo") plays an unhappily married New York architect in the 1960s fascinated with an unsolved murder. His life quickly unravels when his wife (Biel, "7th Heaven") is found dead at the bottom of a cliff, and police attempt to charge him with both murders. Walter "is forced to play cat-and-mouse with a clever killer and an overambitious detective, while at the same time lusting after another woman," according to the International Movie Database plot description.
Haley Bennett ("Marley & Me," "The Girl On The Train"), Eddie Marsan ("Ray Donovan") and 2014 Summit Country Day graduate Radek Lord also appear in the film.
Scenes were shot throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, including the Marianne Theatre in Bellevue and a New Richmond restaurant.
The script was adapted from "The Blunderer," a Patricia Highsmith novel. Cate Blanchett's "Carol," filmed here in spring of 2014, also was based on a Highsmith novel, "The Price of Salt." Christine Vachon of Killer Films was a producer on both movies.
