Here's a story they won't be talking about on The Big One: WGRR-FM (103.5) won the July radio ratings, beating WLW-AM in the monthly Nielsen Company report.

I can't remember the last time WLW-AM wasn't in first place – especially in the middle of the baseball season!

You can't blame the Reds. The Reds were 13-11 in July, the team's first winning month in at least two years.

WGRR-FM, owned by Cumulus, averaged a 9.3% audience share among all listeners ages 6 and older. (Stations sell advertising based on demographics, but the "all listeners" ranking has been used for years as bragging rights for stations, usually WLW.)

WLW-AM, owned by iHeartMedia, averaged a 9.2% audience share. Next were WUBE-FM (7.6), WKRQ-FM (6.8) and WKFS-FM/KISS (5.9).

The says says the last time WLW-AM was knocked out of first place – other than the "Holiday" Christmas music survey period usually won by WARM98 – was over three years ago. March 2013 was won by WGRR-FM, Taylor says.

WGRR-FM's victory was convincing: It was No. 1 in middays (10 a.m.-3 p.m.), afternoon drive (3-7 p.m.) and on weekends for all listeners. The station also was No. 1 in the demographic for ages 25-54, ages 35-64, ages 45-54 and ages 35-54. AndWGRR-FMdid that without a huge marketing budget and a Major League Baseball team.

WLW-AM was first among all listeners in morning drive (6-10 a.m.) with Mike McConnell, who replaced legendary Jim Scott a year ago, and in evenings (7 p.m.-midnight) with the Reds.

This is the first time in years that I've seendayparts, so I'll proudly point out thatWVXU'sbroadcast of NPR's "Morning Edition" weekday morningswas No. 7 with a 5.3 audience share  – behind McConnell/WLW(12.7),WKRQ-FM/Q102(8.0),WUBE-FM(7.7),WGRR-FM(7.1),WKRC-AM(6.3), and WRRM-FM(5.6).

WLW-AM won the ratings in May (11) and June (10.8). WGRR-FM was second in May (10.3) and June (9.8).
