While it may have been a more accepted practice in the past, spanking children can be a controversial topic nowadays. Some parents may think it is appropriate but an increasing number of parents are choosing to forgo the paddle. 

A recent study published in The Journal of Family Psychology claims that children who get spanked are more likely to defy their parents and to experience increased anti-social behavior, aggression, mental health problems and cognitive difficulties.”
