Trump Won't Attend NAACP Convention In Cincinnati
Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump is breaking with tradition and has declined an invitation to speak at the NAACP convention in Cincinnati next week.
The organization announced the news Tuesday.
Presumptive Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton is scheduled to speak to the group on Monday, July 18.
In a statement, NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks said Trump is missing out on a "valuable opportunity" to connect with the organization's thousands of members on several key issues.
"You can't run for president and not talk about police misconduct and police brutality. You can't run for president and not talk about this country's civil rights agenda. This is an important moment, and our convention is an opportunity for anyone running for president to provide a window into not only their policies, but into their heart and character as a candidate."
