An art project to feed the hungry started Tuesday morning in eight Downtown locations.

Canstruction is a benefit for the and features the work of 16 construction, design, architecture, and engineering firms, as well as student groups.

The teams build sculptures out of cans and containers of non-perishable foods.  They have only five hours for the construction.

According to a news release from the Freestore Foodbank, the sculptures are meant to draw attention to the issue of hunger in the area. The more than 60,000 food items are donated to the local food bank when the exhibit ends March 27.

Entries are judged and the winners are announced on March 11.  The winning teams can then compete against entries from 150 other cities around the world.
