Hamilton County Administrator Resigns

Hamilton County Commissioners expected to wrap up the annual performance review for administrator Christian Sigman on Monday, Feb. 1, but it may be a moot point.  Sigman has submitted his resignation, effective in September.

Sigmangave a letter to the county commissioners earlier this week, Commission President Chris Monzel told WVXU.  Monzel said Sigman did not give a reason for his resignation.

Sigman has been county administrator since 2011.  He did not give a reason for leaving, but wrote that he would stay until September. Sigman could not be reached for comment.

Commission President ChrisMonzelsays “I was a little surprised in some ways, but not entirely, based on the fact that he had interviewed for other jobs.”

Last year,Sigmanapplied for a city manager position in Virginia Beach, Virginia but was not hired.

Sigman got in hot water last spring over a letter sent to Cincinnati City Manager Harry Black.  The letter criticized the speed of progress at the Banks development.  After that letter, Sigman was removed from economic development projects.  His salary was not affected.

Monzel says “This is a situation that we were going to take up on Monday at our meeting.”

The nine months before the resignation takes effect gives commissioners time to find a replacement, although there’s been no public discussion and the position hasn’t been advertised.

“At this point I’m just trying to digest it all,” Monzel says. “We’re just trying to work through this.”
