After months of discussion, a Cincinnati Council committee has tentatively approved a proposed operating schedule for the city's streetcar system.
Several proposals were considered and the final draft is a compromise. Council Member Amy Murray supports the plan.
“...It seems like this really captures what people have been asking for,” Murray said. “We’ve captured the early morning and the late night. I think we have the frequency right. So I think we are probably as good as we can get without having the data.”
Recommended streetcar operating schedule:
- Sunday and holidays: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
- Monday-Thursday: 6:30 a.m. – midnight
- Friday: 6:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.
- Saturday: 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Cincinnati Metro’s Paul Grether said ridership data will be tracked once passenger service begins in September.
“We will use that information, sit down with TransDev most likely on a quarterly basis to say 'look, we’re seeing trends here, we’re seeing trends there,'” Grether said. “The other thing that some systems do, which we may follow here if we see the trends, is do seasonal schedules.”
During peak hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., streetcars will run every 12 minutes. During non-peak times it is every 15 minutes.
