Guitarist Xuefei Yang joined Classical 101's Jennifer Hambrick today for a conversation and live performance on Classical 101.

It isn’t every day that the world’s leading guitar virtuoso comes to town, but today was that day, and Classical 101 was there when it happened.

International guitar soloist Xuefei Yang stopped by earlier today to play and talk about her career and performance tomorrow evening in Columbus.

As the first female guitarist to enter a Chinese music school, Yang created a path for herself into the career she now enjoys. In our conversation today, Yang shared her fascinating story about how “the guitar chose her,” and how destiny unfolded to lead her to the international concert stage.

Yang also performed one of her favorite works, Roland Dyens’Tango en skai:

A proponent of Chinese music, Yang also gave us a performance of Xi Dance (composed in 1966 and inspired by traditional Chinese music) and put the work in the context of Chinese social history:

Xuefei Yang performs tomorrow at 8 pm at Capital University’s Huntington Recital Hall in a solo recital presented by the Columbus Guitar Society.

Jennifer Hambrick unites her extensive backgrounds in the arts and media and her deep roots in Columbus to bring inspiring music to central Ohio as Classical 101’s midday host. Jennifer performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago before earning a Ph.D. in musicology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
