The WOSU Public Media booth at the 2017 Columbus Arts Festival will be located at the corner of W. Cherry and Second streets in Bicentennial Park.

Live radio from the studio is great, but nothing beats live radio out in the community. For a ham like me, what could be better than presiding over Classical 101 by Request, live from the Columbus Arts Festival, from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, June 9?

OK, OK. Lots of WOSU colleagues will be on air live from the festival. But they can write their own blog posts.

I'll be welcoming some terrific guests this Friday. Come say hello and learn more about their contributions to the arts in Columbus.

Here's the schedule for the show:

1 p.m. Chad Whittington, interim president and CEO, Columbus Association for the Performing Arts

1:30 p.m. Tom Katzenmeyer, president and CEO, Greater Columbus Arts Council

2 p.m. Tim Sarsany, artistic director, Columbus Gay Men's Chorus

2:30 p.m. Orlay Alonso, pianist, co-host of Classical 101's Musica Cubana

We'll be playing music requests from my on-air guests and, as always, from you.

I host Classical 101 by Request from 1 to 3 p.m. every Friday. The program depends on you and your requests!

You can make a request here or by calling 614-292-9678. We can't honor same-day requests, but the very first Friday there's a vacancy, there your request will be!

And be sure to stop by the WOSU Public Media booth at the Columbus Arts Festival this weekend, at the corner of Rich Street and Civic Center Drive.

Christopher Purdy is Classical 101's early morning host, 7-10 a.m. weekdays. He is host and producer of Front Row Center – Classical 101’s weekly celebration of Opera and more – as well as Music in Mid-Ohio, Concerts at Ohio State, and the Columbus Symphony broadcast series. He is the regular pre-concert speaker for Columbus Symphony performances in the Ohio Theater.
