Stocks are opening lower on Wall Street Tuesday, May 24, 2022 led by drops in tech heavyweights like the parent companies of Facebook and Google. The S&P 500 index fell 1.2% in the early going, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq was down almost twice as much, 2.3%.

Recent losses on Wall Street resulting in falling stock and bond markets have sparked concerns about a recession. In addition, rising prices for food, gas and other goods have Americans, according to a recent Pew poll, saying it's the country's top problem.

We’ll look at what the current economic volatility on Wall Street means for consumers and the U.S.
