A series of bills that would increase the penalty for protesting infrastructure projects have come before state legislatures all across the country.
One such example of these bills is Senate Bill 33, which passed in the Ohio Senate earlier this year. This would categorize entering the “... enter[ing] or remain[ing} on a critical infrastructure facility,” as a First Degree Misdemeanor.
Supporters of this legislation cited concerns for safety and protecting property, while critics state they’re an attempt to suppress free speech.
