President Barack Obama signs into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in the East Room of the White House on January 29, 2009

The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was enacted in 2009 to provide additional protections for workers who believe they are being discriminatorily underpaid. Despite the changes the law made, the issue of gender pay equality has remained a persistent problem in the United States.
