This episode originally aired on June 17, 2021.

"Critical Race Theory" is a legal term to describe a way of understanding how American racism has shaped public policy, but in recent months it has been recast as a divisive term for how the history of American racism has played out, pitting people of color against white oppressors.

Now, Republican-controlled legislatures in states that include Ohio are looking to gag teachers in the classroom when it comes to those lessons.

Today on All Sides with Ann Fisher we discuss what "critical race theory" is, what it isn’t and why it’s been thrust to the front lines of the culture war.
