The family of Delaware county native Stone Foltz is suing Bowling Green State University, a little over a year after Foltz died from alcohol poisoning following a fraternity hazing event.
The lawsuit seeking at least $50,000 in damages accuses the school of encouraging students to join fraternities and sororities while knowing they had a history of hazing.
A statement from Bowling Green said the lawsuit is meritless and undermines the school's efforts to fight hazing.
Authorities said the 20-year-oldFoltz, a Buckeye Valley graduate, died after drinking an entire bottle of liquor at a Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity initiation event.
Fraternity members took him to his apartment afterward where a roommate later found Foltz unconscious. He died three days after he was put on life support.
Last week, three former fraternity members were sentenced to jail time.
