AEP is expanding its bill assistance program to help struggling customers.

The utility company said the Neighbor to Neighbor program is now accepting applications for customers to receive a larger grant applied directly to their bill.

The program is usually available once per year on a first-come, first-served basis. The company said due to recent severe weather the maximum credit available increased from $350 to $500. A family of four earning up to $83,250 is eligible for the program. Customers can apply through July 29.

AEP received a lot of criticism last week after widespread power outages occurred following a severe storm. Following the outages, the company announced it would partner with local non-profits to provide $1 million to help relieve the financial burdens from customers.
