A 16-year-old girl died after she was shot by her father, who reportedly mistook her for an intruder.

It happened early Wednesday morning on the 5400 block of Piper Ridge Drive on Columbus' Southeast Side. The Columbus Dispatch reports the victim, Janae Hairston, was a junior at Canal Winchester High School.

The Dispatch reports the case will be forwarded to the Franklin County Prosecutor's office for review.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become avaliable.
