Columbus Readies For Pool Upgrades In Hilltop, Linden
Columbus is planning renovations at city pools, with the first round of upgrades planned in the Hilltop and South Linden.
Planning is underway to revamp the Glenwood and Windsor pools, with $12 million earmarked for the project in this fall’s capital budget. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther describes the project as part of his equity agenda, and he contends improving amenities like pools gives a community more than just a place to cool off.
“You know law enforcement has a role to play in making our community and neighborhoods safer, but so does recreation and parks, so does health, so does neighborhoods, all of us working together,” Ginther argues. “Public service infrastructure are ways that we also can increase and improve neighborhood safety.”
The city is planning events in September to go over redesign ideas and get feedback from neighbors. If council approves the budget, the plan would be to start collecting construction bids sometime early next year.
“Fall of ’22 is the anticipated start for construction for Glenwood and Windsor pools, and our goal is to have them open and serving children families and seniors by swim season of 2023,” Ginther said.
The mayor has previously shared elements of is capital spending plan, but he has yet to release the full budget. The proposal should go to city council sometime this fall, when they return from summer recess.
