Columbus Plans Progressive Parking Pricing Near Campus

smart_parking_meter.jpg

Columbus parking officials are rolling out a new progressive pricing model near Ohio State University to encourage more turnover among visitors.

In two high-traffic areas near campus, the longer you stay the more you’ll pay. The program breaks up university area parking into three districts — one running along High Street north of Chittenden Avenue, and two more near Neil and King Avenues.

Residents can get virtual permits online beginning Monday, but the changes won’t take effect until Aug. 9.

The districts along High Street and east of Neil Avenue will use progressive pricing. The first three hours will cost $2 each, but after that, the price rises 50 cents an hour for every hour. Parking officials say the change will prioritize access for residents, who won’t face hourly rates, while encouraging turnover for visitors.
