Columbus City Schools Announces Return Of In-Person Graduation Ceremonies
Columbus City Schools announced the return of in-person graduation ceremonies for this year’s graduating class.
This Class of 2021 will celebrate with in-person ceremonies at the Columbus Convention Center and three high school sites. Each graduating student will be able to bring two guests.
Sixteen high schools will host their ceremonies in one of three different ballrooms at the convention center, Battelle, Union Station and Short North Ballrooms.
Unlike before the pandemic, guests must remain in their seats at each venue, and there will be less time to mingle. Convention center guests will enter through a designated entrance 15 minutes before the ceremony. After the ceremony, guests will have up to 15 minutes to get pictures with their graduates. The district said the time restrictions are needed to prepare for the venue for the next ceremony.
The district will require attendees to be socially distanced and wear masks. Ceremonies will take place June 2 through 5.
East High School will host its ceremony in its school auditorium, Columbus Africentric Early College will host at its fieldhouse and Columbus Scioto High School will host its ceremony at the district’s Southland administrative building.
All the ceremonies will also be live-streamed on the district's Facebook and YouTube.
