Columbus Marathon Canceled Due To Coronavirus Pandemic
The 2020 Nationwide Children's Hospital Columbus Marathon, scheduled for October 18, has been canceled.
The event’s board of trustees voted unanimously to cancel the fall marathon and half-marathon.
“It became quite apparent to the Board that the best way to protect everyone's safety would be to cancel our event for 2020,” said Dan Leite, chair of the marathon's board, in an emailed statement. “It was a very difficult decision to make but one we strongly believe is in the best interest of everyone.”
The Columbus Marathon celebrated its 40th anniversary last year, and attracts runners from all 50 states and around the world. Since 2012, the event has raised $10 million for Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Hundreds of current and former patients often show their support by lining the race route and cheering on runners.
Registered athletes will be able to obtain a full refund.
