Mount Carmel opens a new 210-bed hospital in Grove City this weekend.

Officials with the hospital group say they aimed for the city, just south of Columbus, to be closer to patients who were already traveling to their facility in Franklinton. Sean McKibben, president of the Grove City hospital, says they’ll provide state-of-the-art services.

“We will have a level three new born intensive care unit,” he says. “That is the highest level of care you can have for critically ill newborns. We will have a comprehensive cardiovascular program here including interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, as well as open heart surgery.”

The facility boasts comprehensive cancer care and bariatric services. The teaching hospital will employ 1,500 and house Mount Carmel’s graduate education program.

“We have residents in house 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so with that type of expertise and additional resources in house we’ll be able to treat a higher acuity type of patient—so sicker patients in essence,” McKibben says.

The emergency room at the $361 million hospital is already open, but beginning Sunday they’ll start accepting in-patient visitors.
