The ball will begin rolling this week in Columbus’ search for a new school superintendent.

The Columbus school board will hold work sessions on Monday and Tuesday to determine which search firm and outside legal counsel will assist in the process.

After the school board’s first superintendent search fell apart, some members criticized the search firm and the legal advice they received.

The outside legal counsel is meant to keep the board on the right side of state open meetings laws—which the board violated the first time around—and serve as an intermediary between the board and search officials.

Some members claim others attempted to influence the candidate pool in the first search by lobbying the search firm behind the scenes.
