City Officials Will Meet Next Week With MLS And Columbus Crew

Columbus Crew

Columbus Partnership CEO Alex Fischer confirmed that he and Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther will head to New York to meet Major League Soccer commissioner Don Garber and Columbus Crew owner Anthony Precourt on November 15.

They'll discuss what needs to happen to keep the Crew in Columbus.

Fischer and Ginther announced October 24 that they had reached out to Precourt and Garber to request in-person meetings, a week after Precourt Sports Ventures said it would move the Crew to Austin, Texas, after the 2018 season if a new stadium is not built.

Last month, Ginther said the Columbus Partnership offered to buy the Crew, but that the city “did not receive full engagement from the team's ownership."

These negotiations have all taken place against the backdrop of the Crew's run in the MLS playoffs. The Crew play Toronto FC in the first leg of the Eastern Conference finals on November 21.
