Ohio State's Puerto Rican Student Group Raising Money For Battered Island
As Puerto Rico continues to recover from the devastation of Hurricane Maria, some Ohio State University students have mobilized to help.
The Puerto Rican Student Association at Ohio State is organizing a fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday in the lobby of the Ohio Union.
Liane Davila-Martin, an Ohio State graduate student and president of the group, says she and her fellow Puerto Rican students felt helpless in the wake of the storms.
“The whole fact that the hurricane was going through, while we were here in Ohio, nothing for us to do, that was kind of tough,” Davila-Martin said.
The drive is part of a nationwide initiative called United for Puerto Rico.
Students will be collecting both monetary and physical donations of items including solar lights, non-perishable food, batteries and first-aid kits.
