Prosecutor To Announce Tensing Decision Tuesday
In a news release the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office says Joe Deters will announce his decision on whether to retry former University of Cincinnati Police officer Ray Tensing at a press conference Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m.
According to our news partner WCPO Deters has three options: "bring the same charges, seek only voluntary manslaughter or lesser charges, or drop the case. Under the second option he would bring the new charge(s) to a different grand jury. If the grand jury indicted Tensing there would be another trial. If Deters drops the case, Tensing would not serve jail time."
Tensing was charged with murder and voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of Sam DuBose during a 2015 traffic stop. His trial ended in a hung jury November 12th.
A few hours after the mistrial was announced, a large crowd of Black Lives Matter members and other supporters of the DuBose family gathered in front of the Hamilton County Courthouse for what was a loud but peaceful protest that blocked Main Street for a while.
Hundreds of protestors left the Main Street side of the Courthouse and began marching through downtown Cincinnati.
A gathering of area ministers and pastors held a meeting and news conference Monday. The group repeated its call for a retrial.
