Teen Admits To Unintentional Shooting Death Of Teenage Girl
A 17-year-old boy has admitted to the 2014 unintentional shooting death of a teenage girl in Columbus.
The boy pleaded guilty Tuesday to reckless homicide with a gun and a weapons offense in the shooting that killed 17-year-old Shevona Whitehead.
Whitehead died after she was shot once with a gun being handled by the then-15-year-old boy in a bedroom at his home. Prosecutors say the boy told police someone gave him the gun and it went off accidentally when the girl reached for it. But a witness says the boy pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger to prove it wasn't loaded.
The boy faces up to nine years behind bars in adult prison when he's sentenced.
