Ohio College Plans Town Hall Discussion Of City's 2001 Riots
An Ohio college plans a town hall discussion to examine community relations in Cincinnati 15 years after race riots.
Xavier University has been holding events meant to educate students about an era when most were young. The town hall on Tuesday will examine how to build a more equitable and healthy Cincinnati and discuss progress since 2001.
After riots triggered by a fatal police shooting of an unarmed black man, the city increased police training and citizen feedback, revised policies to reduce uses of deadly force, and focused on community oriented policing. Such issues have taken on increased national attention in the past two years.
Then-mayor Charlie Luken will speak along with panelists who include a demonstration leader, a police official and an attorney involved in the post-riot collaborative agreement.
