Franklinton Duplex Fire Kills Two, Five Able To Escape

Five other people, including three children, escaped. A girl was taken to a hospital for minor burns.

Fire officials say two people are dead after a fire ripped through their Franklinton duplex on Monday.

Fire Battalion Chief Tracy Smith says a man and woman who were both in their 60s died in the Monday morning blaze on Brehl Avenue in Franklinton.

They are not being identified until their families can be notified.

Five other people, including three children, escaped. A girl was taken to a hospital for minor burns.

Smith says the fire started around 11 a.m. The cause has not been determined.

Fire officials say several pets also died in the fire.
