The city of Columbus' newly elected mayor and former mayor will be attending President Barack Obama's State of the Union address.

New Mayor Andrew Ginther will go to the Tuesday night event as a guest of U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi, a Republican from the area. Ginther is a Democrat who became Columbus' 53rd mayor Jan. 1.

Former Mayor Michael Coleman, who had held the job for 16 years, is attending as a guest of U.S. Rep. Joyce Beatty, a Columbus-area Democrat.

The White House previously announced that Cincinnati resident Jim Obergefell is attending as a guest of First Lady Michelle Obama. Obergefell was the plaintiff in the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark case last year establishing that same-sex couples have the constitutional right to marry.
