Ohio's PG Sittenfeld Says He'd Be Tough On Guns In US Senate

Democratic Senate candidate P.G. Sittenfeld says he's the only Ohio candidate running for U.S. Senate in 2016 who would support a slew of new gun restrictions in Washington.

In speech-style remarks delivered to reporters Tuesday, the 31-year-old Cincinnati councilman said he would be a fresh voice in Washington who isn't beholden to the powerful National Rifle Association and he plans to make gun safety a centerpiece of his campaign.

He said he would push for universal background checks, safe gun storage requirements and ammunition microstamping, among other restrictions.

Sittenfeld is challenging ex-Gov. Ted Strickland for the Democratic nomination. The winner faces Republican Sen. Rob Portman next fall. Sittenfeld said Portman has an A rating with the NRA and Strickland has an A-plus.

Strickland's spokeswoman said he supports universal background checks.
