The Adena Culture Serpent Mound

An Ohio man who drunkenly damaged an ancient burial mound with his car has pleaded guilty under an agreement with prosecutors requiring him to write a research paper on the site.

20-year-old Daniel Dargavell pleaded guilty Friday to misdemeanor charges that came after he drove his car on a mound at the same site as the massive, snake-shaped Serpent Mound in July.

Dargavell, of Peebles, has paid $3,800 in restitution and already begun performing community service required by the plea deal.

The Adena Culture Serpent Mound is thought to be more than 2,000 years old. The site is a National Historic Landmark about 70 miles east of Cincinnati.
