Columbus Gay Couple To Apply For Marriage License Again
The Columbus gay couple who tried to get a marriage license in Kentucky this week but was turned away by the county clerk will try again today.
Robbie Blankenship and his and his partner, Jesse Cruz, say they will apply for a marriage license for a second time in Rowan County now that its clerk is in jail for contempt of court.
Blankenship said he hopes the incident generates an understanding about same-sex marriage.
"Hopefully a compromise will come out of this, hopefully it will spark conversation, it will spark debate, which I believe it has," Blankenship said.
A federal judge remanded county clerk Kim Davis her to jail for defying an order to issue marriage licenses. Davis says issuing the licenses would violate her religious convictions.
