Beer and wine will be available to purchase in Ohio Stadium this fall.

Ohio State University will sell beer and wine to a limited number of football ticket holders this fall, as part of a pilot program.

Several universities around the country have begun to sell alcohol at their stadiums in recent years, and OSU Athletics finance and facilities chair Jack Minor said Ohio State wants to see if it can safely be done at the 'Shoe.

“It’s really been a question over the years that the fans have been asking us. So it’s a broader question of fan experience," he said, Friday afternoon. "We want to know that we're able to do this responsibly so that we're able to provide a safe environment for our fans and attendees."

Miner said beer and wine was sold, this summer, during three concerts and a pro football scrimmage at the ‘Shoe. Alcohol has been available in limited areas in the Schottenstein Center since 1998.

This fall, alcohol will only be available to about 4,400 seats in suites and club seating.

Miner said his group will continue to study how much revenue the sales could generate.
