A candidate has been selected to replace out-going Columbus City Councilmember Michelle Mills on the November ballot. Mills resigned Monday.

City Council member Michelle Mills will step down from council September 4th. According to Franklin County Board of Elections documents, she also withdrew her name from the November ballot.

Elizabeth Brown, the daughter of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, has accepted the nomination to run.

Mills did not give a reason for her resignation. WOSU has been unable to reach her.

Mills, and three other council members, generated controversy following news reports about a trip the four took to the Big Ten Championship Football game with lobbyist John Raphael. Raphael is under federal scrutiny in a bribery investigation.

Mills was on city council for 4 and a half years. She serves as president pro-tempore.

Mills said she will continue her work with St. Stephen's Community House.

Monday was the deadline to replace candidates on the November ballot.
