Jeni's Finds Source Of Listeria
Almost two weeks after it announced a voluntary recall of all its products, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams announced, Wednesday, the source of a Listeria contamination. The company also reports it may be able to resume production “in the very near future.”
Jeni’s CEO John Lowe said in an online statement, a swab test found Listeria on the spout of a production machine.
Lowe said the machine is used to fill some of its ice cream pints. He was careful to note the equipment is not used to fill ice cream buckets served at scoop shops, though Lowe noted Jeni’s will go forward with plans to discard all of those buckets.
The company said it’s uncertain how the Listeria got onto the machine.
Lowe said Jeni’s is working to install new defenses that limit the pathogens into the production environment.
