Ohio Rep. Ryan Says He Won't Make 2016 US Senate Run

Veteran northeast Ohio congressman Tim Ryan says he isn't running for the 2016 Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Rob Portman. Ryan in a statement cites his "new and growing" family for his decision. Ryan was married in 2013 and his wife gave birth to a son last year. He also has two step-children. Cincinnati city councilman P.G. Sittenfeld is seeking the Democratic nomination, while former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland is considering it. The former congressman says he will announce his decision by the end of this month. Portman is a former congressman and White House budget chief who is seeking a second Senate term. The swing state race could be important to GOP hopes of holding its Senate majority in the presidential election year.
