Ohio Sees Another Spike In Flu Hospitalizations
The state says flu hospitalizations continue to spike in Ohio, with a 51 percent jump the last full week of December. The Ohio Department of Health reports that 973 people were hospitalized from Dec. 21 through Dec. 27, bringing the flu season total to 2,892. The agency's report released Friday also says two children have died this year from the flu. Those deaths were a 15-year-old girl in Ironton in southern Ohio in November and a 16-year-old boy in Licking County last month. The state says the southwestern region of the state had the most hospitalizations during the reporting period with 212. Several hospitals around Ohio are asking people with flu symptoms to stay away to avoid sickening patients and staff.
